Overview
The Tier 1 collectio represents the pinnacle of the Johnnie Walker Vault offering in Nigeria. A Celebration of Time, created to honour 65 years of Nigeria’s independence. It is a tribute to shared history, progress, and craftsmanship. Only 10 bottles exist in the world, each unique. This makes every bottle finite, irreplaceable, and deeply symbolic.
The Story
Crafted by Master Blender Dr Emma Walker, this blend was conceived as a journey through time. It brings together rare liquids from six ghost distilleries that were operational around 1960, the year Nigeria became independent. These distilleries—Brora, Glenury Royal, Convalmore, Caledonian, Carsebridge, and Port Dundas—were part of Johnnie Walker’s storied inventory in 1960. However, they have since closed, making their remaining stock incredibly scarce. Each cask holds a liquid memory of that pivotal era. Together, they form a blend that celebrates the progressive spirit that connects Johnnie Walker and Nigeria
The Liquid
The Tier 1 collection is defined by depth, elegance, and complexity. Every sip reflects the richness of aged and rare stocks, the character of lost distilleries, and a smooth, layered, and lasting finish. It is a blend designed to be savoured slowly, revealing its story over time.
The Decanter
The bottle is as intentional on the outside as it is within. Cradled in hand-finished glass and crowned with a sculpted gold closure. Unique to each of the ten bottles is a hand-selected aso oke textile. Woven by Nigerian artisans, no two patterns are the same. Each strip tells its own story. Long regarded as a fabric of honour, aso oke has dressed royalty and carried legacy across generations. Here, it becomes part of the bottle’s identity, rooting a Scotch whisky born in Scotland firmly in Nigerian soil.
