THE OLFACTION

To express the fluid movement and impertinent sensuality of Yves Saint Laurent’s iconic see-through blouses, perfumer Quentin Bisch selected the lush, luminous Damascena rose, one of the two species of flower showcased in fine fragrance. “I chose to work on a rose because I wanted to capture its inherent sophistication and natural intensity, particularly at dusk. This approach allows me to create an elegant olfactory veil that subtly evokes the delicate texture of Yves Saint Laurent’s original blouse”.
Not just delicate but also assertive and vibrant, the precious rose breaks free from classic elegance to take on the very modern sheerness of chiffon.
Impertinent green, citrusy accents infuse the silky petals with vibrant, fresh energy. “Just as the fabric drapes delicately and gracefully, herbal, musky angelica adds a layer of depth and intrigue to the fragrance, creating an experience that is both airy and profound”, the perfumer adds. The gauzy, green floral blend is enhanced by yet another musky note: warm, sensuous Cashmeran.

THE INSPIRATION

In 1968, Yves Saint Laurent turned it into a fashion cause célèbre with what the American press dubbed the See-Through Blouse. Its diaphanous fabric scandalously revealing the model’s breasts -- liberating the female torso in a couture manifesto for gender equality --, the impertinent piece caused a sensation. But it was part of Saint Laurent’s aesthetic revolution that mixed power, femininity, eroticism, and elegance. Once the outrage had passed, the blouse’s success confirmed its status as a timeless object of the wardrobe. Despite its sheerness and provocative nature, the blouse is an emblem of the YSL style.
